Biography

Martin Freeman was born 8th September 1971 in Aldershot, and trained as an actor at the central school of speech and drama in London. He has appeared in many TV shows most notably, The Office, Hardware and the Robinsons as well as having an extremely successful film career that includes Hitchikers guide to the galaxy, Confetti and Hot Fuzz. He has also appeared in Faith no mores music video for ‘I started a joke’ and covered a few shows on BBC 6 music a digital radio show. His name has also come up for the role of Bilbo Baggins in the film adaptation of the book The Hobbit.

In 2004 Martin was nominated for three awards; a BAFTA TV award for the best comedy performance in The Office Christmas special, a 2002 British comedy award as best comedy actor in The Office, and a 2004 PFCS award for best ensemble acting for Love Actually.

Winner of numerous awards for the office including:

Golden Globe for Best Television Series in 2004; British Comedy Award for Best New TV Comedy in 2002 & Martin was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Performance in 2004

Hardware was nominated for Best Situation Comedy Bafta 2004
Winner of Best performance in a Sitcom Rose D’4or 2004

Winner of Best drama serial Bafta 2004 for Charles 2nd

Winner of the top theatre prize, Edinburgh Festival 1997 with Jump to cow heaven

*Martin has three older brothers and a sister

*He doesn’t drive

*Martin’s girlfriend is the actress Amanda Abbington

*Was on the British national squash squad from the age nine to fourteen

*He is vegetarian

*He is a big fan of 60s and 70s soul music


"I was almost a champion. I could have been really good. I was in the junior national squad for a while. I just didn't have the killer instinct you need to get to the top. I always caught myself thinking, someone's got to lose and it would be such a shame if the other guy lost, so I never quite went the extra mile"

"I'm not anti it, I'm just not interested. I kind of gave up with that one a few years ago, I was interested for a bit but I couldn't hold out that pretence any longer of wanting to know about people."
